Garden Landscaping and Redesign
Blooming Marvellous Gardens redesigns and reshapes outdoor spaces around Banbury and across Oxfordshire, Warwickshire and Gloucestershire. Our landscaping work turns tired or impractical gardens into places that are easier to maintain and more enjoyable to use. Alongside lawns, beds and planting, we lay patios and driveways and install fencing. Whether the brief is to open up a lawn, rein in overgrown boundaries, create new beds or prepare ground for planting, we plan the work in stages and carry it out with the same care we bring to our regular maintenance rounds every week.
A landscaping project with Blooming Marvellous Gardens is booked either as a set service or as an hourly visit, with a minimum booking of 2 hours, depending on the scale and the certainty of the scope. Small, well-defined jobs such as reshaping a single border or lifting an area of tired turf are straightforward to quote as a service. Larger projects with unknowns beneath the surface — old roots, rubble, drainage issues or buried hardstanding — are often better handled as hourly visits so the work can adapt as the garden reveals its conditions.
Enquiries and scheduling are handled by email or phone, so you can reach us on 07926 771110 or at bloomingmarvellousgardens@outlook.com to arrange a first look at the garden. We can often combine a landscaping phase with a regular maintenance plan once the new planting has settled in.

Getting started
How does a landscaping project start?
A landscaping project starts with a visit to look at the garden, discuss how you want to use the space, and note existing planting, levels, drainage and access. Blooming Marvellous Gardens then sets out a clear plan and scope before any ground is broken. Enquiries and scheduling are handled by email or phone.
During that first visit we listen to how you want to live in the garden. Some clients want more lawn for children or dogs, others want less lawn and more planting for pollinators, and many simply want the space to feel less work. We measure the area, photograph key views and identify what can stay, what should go, and what is hiding under the surface. Existing trees, hedges and mature shrubs are valued where they are healthy and well placed; removing them is rarely the first answer.
From that visit we produce a simple written scope. It sets out what will be done, the materials or plants involved, the approximate time frame and how the job will be charged. For straightforward work this is a fixed quote. For projects with several possible directions it is an estimate with agreed stages, so you can decide at each point whether to continue. Nothing is started until the scope is clear.
Changes of level and boundaries are part of the same preparation, and where a bank needs holding or a garden wall needs putting right we can take on the stonework in local stone alongside the rest of the project.
Preparation is the part that makes the finished garden last. We clear weeds properly before laying new turf or planting, because buried roots and seeds will reappear the moment they see light. Levels are checked so water drains away from buildings and paths, and the soil is improved where planting is planned. Skipping this stage is the fastest way to turn a new garden back into a problem within a season.
Aftercare
How long does a garden take to establish afterwards?
Most newly landscaped planting takes two to three growing seasons to settle in and look fully at home. Lawns laid from turf are usable within weeks, while seeded lawns and new borders need a full season or more to fill out. Regular care during the first year is the key.
The first growing season is about survival. New plants are watered, weeded and watched for signs of stress. Some losses are normal, and we replace anything that fails within the agreed establishment period. Turf laid in dry weather needs consistent watering until its roots have anchored into the soil beneath; seeded lawns need protection from heavy foot traffic while the young grass thickens up.
By the second year the garden starts to show its character. Borders fill out, shrubs put on new growth, and the structure of the planting becomes visible. This is when formative pruning, staking and the first proper feed make a real difference. A garden that is well looked after in year two will usually need far less intervention in year three and beyond.
The third growing season is when most landscapes settle into their rhythm. Plants have sized up enough to suppress weeds, the lawn is robust enough to recover from normal use, and the overall maintenance requirement drops. Clients who combine landscaping with our regular garden maintenance visits find this transition easier, because the same team that built the garden understands how it was meant to develop.
Ongoing care
Where landscaping meets ongoing maintenance
A well-designed garden should be easier to look after than the one it replaced. That means generous bed widths that can be weeded without treading on plants, lawn shapes that can be mowed cleanly without stopping and starting, and planting chosen for the conditions rather than for a brief moment of colour. If the maintenance plan is not considered during the design, the garden quickly becomes a chore again.
We often landscape with the future maintenance round in mind. Hedges are positioned where they can be cut without awkward access, paths are laid with edges that can be strimmed cleanly, and beds are mulched after planting to suppress weeds through the first season. This matters most for clients who want the garden to stay tidy without spending every weekend on it.
Some gardens need a single intervention: a border reshaped, a lawn re-levelled, an overgrown corner cleared. Others need a phased approach over several seasons, tackling one area at a time to spread cost and disruption. Both are common across Oxfordshire, Warwickshire and Gloucestershire, where gardens range from compact town plots to large rural spaces with long boundaries.
Once the landscaping is complete, many clients move onto a regular maintenance schedule. The same team continues to visit, now working with the new layout rather than against the old one. This continuity protects the investment and keeps the garden improving rather than slipping back. If you would like to see the kind of results this produces, our pictures of finished projects show completed landscaping and the care that follows it.
