Garden maintenance
Regular visits that keep a domestic garden in good order throughout the year. Work typically includes lawn mowing, edging, border weeding, hedge trimming, leaf clearance and small pruning jobs. The exact tasks change with the season: feeding and weeding in spring, growth management in summer, clearance and harder cuts in autumn, pruning and planning in winter.
Scheduled care for larger sites such as commercial grounds, estates and bigger residential plots. This covers the routine work that keeps grounds presentable and safe: grass cutting, path and verge maintenance, litter and leaf clearance, and general tidying. Our scheduled care for larger sites is built around a clear scope and regular visits.
Reductions, reshaping and routine trimming of hedges and boundaries. We schedule heavier reductions and reshaping outside the bird nesting season, broadly from March to August, so autumn and winter are the best times for major reductions.
Redesigning and reshaping outdoor spaces to make them more usable and easier to maintain. We also take on full garden redesigns: reshaping lawns and beds, creating or removing borders, laying patios and driveways, putting up fencing, preparing ground for planting, and general garden makeovers.
Targeted treatment and ongoing prevention for weeds in beds, paths, patios, driveways and other hard surfaces. Our weed treatment and prevention visits treat established weeds and apply preventive measures in spring to stop new growth from taking hold.
The traditional craft of part-cutting live stems near the base and bending them over so they carry on growing sideways. Our winter hedgelaying work regenerates a thin, gappy boundary from ground level, and is carried out between November and March while the hedge is dormant.
Building and repairing walls from graded stone with no mortar, held by the weight and placement of the stones themselves. We take on rebuilds and new walls in local stone, from field boundaries and garden walls to raised beds and retaining sections.
Lifting algae, moss, lichen and ingrained dirt from patios, paths, driveways and decking, also known as power or jet washing. Our cleaning of hard surfaces drops the pressure on soft limestone and aged pointing so the surface is not damaged.
Through the year
How the work is scheduled through the year
Garden work changes with the calendar, and a good maintenance plan follows those changes rather than fighting them. In late winter and early spring we prepare beds, carry out formative pruning and start weed prevention before growth accelerates. This is also the last practical window for harder hedge cutting before the bird nesting season begins.
From March to August we avoid heavy hedge reductions because of the bird nesting season, concentrating instead on mowing, border weeding, growth management and deadheading. Lawns need consistent cutting through this period, and borders can quickly get away from you if they are not visited regularly. We also keep an eye on dry spells and advise on watering when it is needed.
Autumn is the time for leaf clearance, harder reductions once nesting has finished, and final weed treatments before winter. Winter visits focus on pruning, planning the next year's schedule and dealing with storm damage or fallen branches. By following this rhythm, we make sure each garden gets the right attention at the right time rather than the same work every visit regardless of the season.
