Grounds Maintenance for Commercial and Larger Sites
Blooming Marvellous Gardens looks after grounds around Banbury and across Oxfordshire, Warwickshire and Gloucestershire. We maintain the outdoor areas around commercial buildings, schools, estates, care homes and larger residential plots, keeping them presentable, safe and in good order through every season. The work we take on elsewhere covers both detailed garden care and broader grounds care, so we can scale the visit to the size of the space.
Typical grounds maintenance includes grass cutting on large lawns and verges, edging paths and kerbs, litter and leaf clearance, hedge trimming, weed treatment on hard surfaces, and keeping boundaries neat. We also carry out small repairs to fencing, gates and planting beds where agreed. Grounds work is booked either as a set service or as an hourly visit, with a minimum booking of 2 hours, and we agree the scope, frequency and access arrangements before we start.
Enquiries and scheduling are handled by email or phone, so you can reach us on 07926 771110 or at bloomingmarvellousgardens@outlook.com to discuss what your site needs.

Definitions
What is the difference between grounds maintenance and garden maintenance?
Grounds maintenance looks after the outdoor spaces around commercial buildings, estates and larger residential plots, keeping grass, paths, verges and boundaries presentable and safe. Garden maintenance tends to focus on the detailed care of domestic planting, lawns and borders. Blooming Marvellous Gardens carries out both across Oxfordshire, Warwickshire and Gloucestershire, with the scope set to the size and use of the site.
A domestic garden maintenance visit might concentrate on mowing a lawn to a neat finish, weeding borders, deadheading and pruning shrubs for shape and health. Grounds maintenance covers the wider circulation areas: car parks, entrances, verges, pathways, litter picking, leaf clearance and the regular cutting of large grassed areas. The tools, timings and team size are different, and the aim is to keep a site looking managed rather than to tend individual plants.
That said, the two often overlap. An estate may have formal gardens that need close horticultural care as well as broad grounds that need weekly grass cutting. We can combine both into one schedule so that detailed beds and wide-open spaces receive the right attention at the right time. If you are unsure which service fits your property, the easiest next step is to tell us a little about the site and we will recommend the right arrangement.
Frequency
How often does a site need visiting?
The visiting frequency depends on the season, the size of the grounds and how tidy they need to look. A busy commercial entrance may need weekly grass cutting and litter checks, while a larger estate can be kept in shape with fortnightly or monthly rounds. We agree a schedule at the start and adjust it through the year.
Spring and summer are the busiest months for grounds maintenance. Grass grows quickly from April onwards, borders fill out and weeds appear on paths and hard surfaces. During this period a commercial site with high footfall may need weekly visits to keep entrances smart and safe. In autumn the focus shifts to leaf clearance, final grass cuts and preparing beds for winter. Winter visits deal with storm debris, fallen branches, pruning and planning the next year's schedule.
We always try to group neighbouring jobs together, which keeps travel time down and appointment slots reliable. For sites in Oxfordshire, Warwickshire and Gloucestershire, this means we can often serve several properties in one area on the same day. We also keep a flexible slot for ad-hoc work such as clearance after high winds or an extra tidy before an event or inspection.
Hedge work on larger sites is usually scheduled outside the bird nesting season, broadly from March to August. Heavier reductions and reshaping of boundary hedges are best carried out in autumn and winter. For sites that need regular hedge trimming through the summer, we inspect first and carry out lighter trims only where it is safe to do so. You can read more about how we time and carry out hedge work on its own page.
On site
Working around a site in use
Commercial and institutional grounds are rarely empty. We work around opening hours, deliveries, visitors, school pick-up times and event schedules. Before we start, we agree access points, parking, locked-gate arrangements and any no-go zones. Our team keeps noise and disruption to a minimum, and we clear equipment away at the end of each visit so the site looks tidy even while work is in progress.
Safety is central to grounds maintenance. We keep paths clear of overhanging vegetation, remove slippery leaves from walkways, and make sure drains and gullies are not blocked by cuttings. On larger sites we also watch for damage to fences, gates and signage, and we report anything that needs repair. This proactive approach stops small problems from becoming hazards or expensive fixes.
Every site has its own rhythm. A care home may want quiet, low-key visits during the week. A retail park may need weekend or early- morning work to avoid customers. A school may prefer work during term holidays for noisier tasks such as hedge cutting or clearance. We build the schedule around these constraints rather than asking the site to fit around us.
We also coordinate with other contractors when needed. If a site has its own caretaker, facilities manager or maintenance team, we are happy to work alongside them, taking on the outdoor work so they can focus on the building. Clear communication and a written scope mean everyone knows what is covered and what is not.
Records matter on larger sites. We keep a simple visit log so you can see when we attended and what was done. This is useful for inspections, handovers and budget reviews. If you need particular tasks completed at set intervals, we build those into the schedule and report back when they are finished.
